FAQ
How do I volunteer for the
Vinton Dogwood Festival?
The success of the Vinton Dogwood Festival is a direct
result of the devoted efforts of many members of our
community. Without their dedication, support and
participation, producing an event of this enormity would not
be possible. The work is done by 100 plus volunteers who
work with staff of directors and chairpersons. All officers,
members of the Board of Directors and event chairs are
volunteers. Contact the Festival Office at 540-983-0614 to
determine how you might best serve as a volunteer this
year.
How does my company support
the Vinton Dogwood Festival?
The Festival is funded by corporate and local sponsorships,
ticket sales to many of the events, advertising, souvenir
sales and vendor fees. Sponsorships are provided by local,
regional and national businesses. Please contact the
Festival office at 540-983-0614 to determine how your
company might best support this year’s Festival.
What are the routes of the
parade?
The parade winds through downtown Vinton and Washington
Avenue. A complete
parade route can be found on this Web site.

Where can I watch the
parade?
If you’re not lucky enough to own a home along the parade
route (or know someone who does), there are plenty of other
places to watch the parades. One of the best is on Washington Avenue.
Many people line the sidewalks of the one mile parade
route.
What happens if it rains?
Bring your umbrella just in
case. The parade will go on rain or shine. The only time the
parade will be cancelled or delayed is if there are
threatening thunderstorms with lightning in the area. Over
the past 10 years we have only had to delay the parade once.
How many people attend the Festival?
It’s hard to say for sure,
but we estimate 35 to 45,000 people watch the parade each
year.
How many floats and bands are
in parade?
Last year, we had more than 100 units in the parade
including floats, bands, special units, and official cars.
What streets are closed
during the Festival?
Many of the streets along the parade route are closed during
the Festival, starting at 6AM. Prior to the parade starting, main streets are closed
until the parade is over, usually 1.5 hours. Main streets
that are closed during parade time are Washington Avenue,
Pollard Street, Maple and Cleveland Avenue.
Where can I park? How do I
get around during the Festival?
Due to limited public parking lots in the Downtown Vinton
area, most parking takes place along side streets in close
proximity of the different events. No parking is allowed in
the area of the Vinton War Memorial on Saturday April 30th due to the parade lineup.
On the nights of the carnival and entertainment acts,
parking is available on-site at the RCCC. There is a $1.00
charge to park. The festival offers shuttle bus transport on
Friday April 29th from the Vinton Farmers Market parking
lots and the old Vinton Motors lot. Shuttle bus also runs
Saturday April 30th from 10AM till 2PM with stops at the
Carnival, Vinton Baptist Church, Thrasher and Wood's Service
Center and from 5PM till 11PM with stops at Carnival, Vinton
Farmers Market and Vinton Baptist Church.
